I love visiting Southold, Long Island! It feels like home to me, and the perfect setting for a romance!

The structure of the town is much the same as in the 1640’s and ‘50’s. I’ve walked the road from Founder’s Landing to Main Road (originally named Towne Street) and imagined the excitement when the Horton’s first arrived. The Horton Point Lighthouse, named after my ninth great-grandfather, was commissioned by George Washington in 1790 and built in 1857. A plaque marks the corner of Main Road and Horton Lane where Barnabas built the first timber-framed house on eastern Long Island for his family. Below is a Beers, Comstock and Cline 1873 map of the North Fork of Long Island!  Source: Historical Map Works, map can be found at: http://www.historicmapworks.com/

OLD PSALM 100

In my novel, A PLACE IN HIS HEART, Barnabas sings the 4th verse of the hymn that begins with “All People Who on Earth Do Dwell”, written by William Kethe based on Psalm 100 and published in the Anglo-Genevan Psalter of 1561. The melody is attributed to composer Louis Bourgeois in 1551. The tune accompanied lyrics we know today as the Doxology, written by Thomas Ken in 1674, and published in 1709.
