THE MISSING LINK: St Paul’s Shipwreck

What does St Paul’s Shipwreck have to do with the Missing Link? In most offices Mondays are a busy day, and very much to the point of getting the work week on track and would have no place for a Monday Meandering. And my writing office is really no different. But in planning the path of The Missing Link, I will indulge myself each Monday to stray just a little and share with you some exciting things.

Sometimes it will be a “This Week in History” type of post, with events that somehow tie into my novel’s setting or theme. Sometimes a little exciting book news. Sometimes a bit about my writing life or a research trip. And always how it relates back to my roots, my beginnings.

I have a tidbit for you, an interesting article I stumbled upon as I was looking back through history on this day. Today is generally believed to be the day in 60 AD that St Paul’s shipwreck occurred was on Malta. This is a time when the very seeds of the Christian faith were being planted, and Malta is known to be one of the oldest of communities that embraced it.

The article is intriguing because it explores a theory that the shipwreck occurred in a different bay on Malta than the one tradition would have you believe. When retired Los Angeles Crime Scene Investigator, Bob Cornuke, visited Malta he didn’t think the story of the shipwreck in Acts 27 fit with what he observed at St Paul’s Bay.

What Mr. Cornuck did will surprise you, and it strengthened his faith. But as with all challenges to some common beliefs, there are those who strongly disagree as you will read in the comment section of this article. I’m not sure which version I believe. I’m not even sure if it matters, because it doesn’t change the Biblical events. But I do agree with one of the comments, it does encourage me to do a deeper study of the book of Acts, or Luke Part  II :o)

Putting Malta and St Paul’s Bay on my must go see list! Christianity is very much a part of my heritage, my beliefs. And so are oceans and sailing ships, a meandering path and a bit of wanderlust!
